Why I Still Write About Hotels After All These Years
People often ask why I continue to write about hotels after so many years in the industry. Don’t I get bored? The answer is simple. I love them! I love the people behind them, I love how they make you feel. Taking time to stay in hotels is one of life’s little luxuries.
I care about the people behind the places. I care about independent hotels fighting to stay visible. I care about standards slipping quietly while marketing noise gets louder.
Writing allows me to champion what and who deserve attention and to sidestep what does not. It allows me to remain curious. To compare. To notice when something feels right and when it doesn’t. I love small. I love personal.
Experience matters in this industry. Knowing what works comes from staying in hundreds of hotels and understanding context. It comes from recognising patterns and authenticity, not trends.
Hotels, large or small, shape how we remember places. They frame our experiences. A good stay can change how a destination feels. A poor one can do the same!.
As long as hotels continue to matter in this way, I will keep writing.
