Distance from airport - 20 minutes by taxi from Marrakech airport, which Riad Cocoon will arrange

Unlike many riads, Riad Cocoon is reachable by taxi and is then just a few steps hidden away in a side street; there's no need to get a donkey or a tuk-tuk. Small and perfectly formed with just 5 rooms this little oasis is a breath of fresh air when it comes to riads or boutique hotels in Marrakech - luxurious and affordable is the philosophy here and it’s just a short walk from the souks of the Marrakech medina. French owner Corinne is delightful and is on-site welcoming guests, she'll also show you the nearby sights of the refurbished medina to settle you in.

The rooms are cute with traditional tadelakt en-suite bathrooms. Purple Haze Junior Suite is one of our favourites and the Nirvana Suite is gorgeous and definitely worth booking if your budget allows - its private terrace is above the suite and boasts views reaching across to the Atlas Mountains. There's no courtyard as such at Riad Cocoon and although there's a tiny pool it's in the entrance and not one you're likely to dip into. But there is a lovely rooftop terrace where breakfast is served with views across the roof tops to the Atlas Mountains. During the cooler months (November to February) you can enjoy supper in the sitting room in front of the fireplace. You have a choice on the evening menu, which is a set price, and on your first night in Marrakech it's definitely worth booking in.

Put on your walking shoes and head out of the riad to the re-built medina with its new walls and modern shop fronts. With the arrival of concept stores and designer boutiques, shoppers will love this area; there are also some great cafés and restaurants (booking really is essential). A stay in Marrakech isn't the same without a Moroccan Hammam. Here at Riad Cocoon it's a private affair and starts with Moroccan black soap followed by an invigorating scrub where dirt you never knew was possible will fall away (Therapist Raja describes it as spaghetti bolognese!). Once your skin is a soft as a baby's bottom you head to your room to enjoy a firm massage on a heated massage bed - the ideal way to start your stay at Riad Cocoon.
